Blackwing Matte Pencils, per box of 12
Blackwing Matte Pencils, per box of 12
These American-made pencils are considered to be one of the finest ever made and have something of a cult following. Discontinued in 1998, they soon became hot property on eBay with single pencils selling for $40 each. Brought back from extinction after petitions and protests in 2011, these are still made from the same Californian incense cedar with the finest Japanese-crafted graphite core. They are a dream to write with - Half the pressure, twice the speedᅠ- is their motto.
The eraser tip is flat-ended for accuracy and there are three versions which differ in firmness with the standard Blackwing the softest, the Pearl medium and the 602 the firmest.
These pencils have a proud heritage and famous users include John Steinbeck, Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein and Chuck Jones, who created Bugs Bunny with his Palamino.
