BU149 Boot's Chatsworth. (Flexible Fine)

Date: c1950s

Size: Capped - 128mm; posted - 148mm.

These pens were manufactured by Burnham and sold in Boot's stores throughout the UK.  Several models were offered over the years, and this is a later model, probably from the mid 1950s.  It is a nice grey, black, and turquoise coloured casein pen in excellent condition.  The only damage I can see on it is some very hard to spot plating thinning on the shoulder of the pocket clip.  There are no splits, cracks or chips and not even any noticeable scratches to either cap or barrel.  The pen cannot have been used much.  The cap has a conical ended top "jewel" "Boot's" imprinted pocket clip.  Below this and near the cap lip is a single narrow gold plated band.  The barrel has a very clear and crisp imprint to the side - "CHATSWORTH".  Around the barrel from this imprint is the gold plated filling lever.  The cute little Burnham's nib is made from 14-carat gold nib.  The nib is in a fine point.

I have fully serviced this pen.  The nib writes very well with a very fine and wet line.  The nib is rather soft - I would say it is fully flexible and will easily provide line width variation from an extra fine line to a good solid broad with very little effort.

An unusual pen from Burnham.
