BU155 Boot's Chatsworth Fountain Pen and Pencil Set, boxed. (soft Medium)
BU155 Boot's Chatsworth Fountain Pen and Pencil Set, boxed. (soft Medium)
Date: c1950s
Size: Capped - 131mm; posted - 155mm.
These pens were manufactured by Burnham and sold in Boot's stores throughout the UK. Several models were offered over the years, and this is a later model, probably from the mid 1950s. It is a beautifully glossy black coloured casein pen and pencil set in excellent condition. Even the plating on these two pieces is lovely and bright sand unworn. I really don't think either piece has been used more than once or twice in its entire life. There are no splits, cracks or chips and not even any noticeable scratches to either cap or barrel. The caps have a conical ended top "jewel" with a "Boot's" imprinted pocket clip. Below this and near the cap lips is a single narrow gold plated band.
Fountain Pen
The barrel has a very clear and crisp imprint to the side - "CHATSWORTH". Around the barrel from this imprint is the gold plated filling lever. The cute little Warranted nib is made from 14-carat gold nib. The nib is in a medium point.
Pencil
This is a propel-repel pencil that works by twisting the gold plated point. I have fitted a fresh 1.18mm lead into the mechanism and it is working perfectly.
Box
The original presentation case is also in lovely condition with its white and gold foil outer to the very clean inner with an ivory coloured satin pad that has just a tiny bit of age spotting. Inside the list is The "Boot's Chatsworth / All British" sticker.
I have fully serviced this set. The pen writes very well with a medium width wet line. The nib is soft and will give some very attractive line width variation from a fine to a medium with little effort.
The best Boot's Chatsworth I have ever seen. Just lovely original condition.
