CS1040 Conway Stewart No. 15. (Semi-Flexible Medium).

Date: c1950s

Size: Capped - 123mm; posted - 150mm.

This very rather unusual  Conway 15 is in excellent condition with no splits, cracks, or chips and no noticeable surface scratches.  It is an example of the solid grey 15 - I believe these were only produced in the short version like this one, and is the first example of this rather hard-to-find pen that I have seen.  The pastel grey cap and barrel are remarkably uniform in colour and display hardly any of the yellowing that these pens almost always get with age.  All trim is chrome plated and undamaged.  The cap has a conical black end button with a Conway pocket clip that has the CS monogram in a diamond at the top and another diamond at the very bottom.  There is no cap band, which suggests that this is an early example of the model 15 pen.   There appears to be no imprint on this pen, and as far as I can tell, it never actually had one, which, whilst uncommon, is not unheard of.  The little Conway No. 1A nib is in 14 carat gold and undamaged.

I have fully restored this pen.  The nib writes bery well, laying down a smooth and wet line. It is a soft nib - I would class it as semi-flexible and it will manage some rather attractive line width variation from a fine to a broad with little effort.

A rather unusual pen.  The first I have ever had in this particular uncommon colour.
