CS1093 Conway Stewart No. 55 Duro, boxed (Broad Stub)
Date: c1930s
Size: Length Capped - 135mm; Length Posted - 161mm.
This is a lovely glossy green and black marbled Conway 55 with the large Duro nib. It is in very good condition with the only damage that I can spot being the plating loss to the high points on the pocket clip. There are no splits, cracks or chips to either cap or body and no noticeable surface scratches to this lovely glossy pen. The cap has a large black conical-ended top button holding on the Conway washer style pocket clip. This is gold filled with the "CS" monogram at the top in a diamond shaped cartouche with another diamond at the bottom of the clip. At the cap lip are three gold filled bands; a wider band flanked by two narrow bands. The barrel imprint is all there, and all still nice and crisp and easily read. The gold filled filling lever has the "CS" monogram again in a diamond on the circular tab. The plain black hard rubber section holds the lovely large Conway Stewart Duro nib that is shiny and undamaged and in 14 carat gold. It is in a rather unusual broads stub point. The original box is in rather stained and worn condition, but it is still holding together and it has protected the pen very well over the years.
I have fully restored this pen. It fills nicely and holds a good amount of ink. The nib is very smooth and writes with a consistent and wet line. As this is a stub nib it will provide for some beautiful and effortless line width variation from a fine to a good broad width.
I rarely get these lovely pens. One of my favourite Conway Stewart models.
