CS1094 Conway Stewart No. 85L, boxed. (Soft Broad Italic)
Date: c1950s
Size: Length Capped - 138mm; Length Posted - 167mm.
As its name would suggest this is the longer version of the Model 85. It is in excellent condition with just a tiny bit of surface wear that is easily picked up with careful use, and the usual high-point brassing on the pocket clip. Otherwise I can find no damage at all on this lovely glossy pen. The cap has a black conical end "jewel" with a gold filled bezel, cap band, and long straight pocket clip. The clip has the "CS" logo at the top within a diamond shaped cartouche and another diamond at the bottom. The barrel imprint is still easily read, and it appears nice and crisp and deep. It is fitted with a short gold filled filling lever with a diamond and "CS" logo imprinted within the circular end tab. The glossy black section holds the super No. 3 Conway Stewart nib, which is 14 carat gold, undamaged, and in a very unusual broad italic point. The original box is in fair condition though it does have the usual outer surface wear, with some lifting of the surface layer in places. Inside is the original instruction sheet.
I have fully serviced this pen. The nib writes very smoothly with a good wet line. As well as being a straight-cut italic nib, it is also a soft one and will give you some really attractive and almost effortless line width variation from a fine to a good generous broad.
