CS1107 Conway Stewart No. 759 Fountain Pen and Nippy Pencil Set, boxed. (Semi-Flexible Extra Fine)
Date: c1930s
Size: Capped - 132mm, posted - 167mm.
This is the long model 759 in a lovely deep blue marbled casein with black veining and gold filled trim, paired with the Nippy pencil on their original box. Both pieces are in lovely condition. The only damage I can see on either piece is a tiny bit of discolouration to the gold plated point of the pencil and some minor tool marks to the fountain pen's section. Both cap and barrels are nice and glossy with no splits, cracks or chips and no noticeable surface scratches either.
Fountain Pen
The cap has a black hard rubber top button that still has a good dark black colour with no noticeable fading. The washer-style pocket clip "CS" cipher at the top within a diamond shaped cartouche. There is another diamond at the bottom of the clip. There is also a single narrow gold filled cap band. The barrel has a short filling lever with a circular end tab that also has "CS" imprinted within a circle. The barrel imprint is lovely and clear. The section is also in unfaded black hard rubber. The nib is the original 14 carat Conway Stewart No. 2 in an extra fine point.
Pencil
This is a propel-retract pencil that works by twisting the cone at the pointy end. It has a long black crown, which holds on the pocket clip. To the side of the barrel is a very clear imprint. The crown will unscrew with space below to store some spare 1.18mm leads. I have fitted a fresh lead into the mechanism and the pencil works perfectly.
Box
The colour-coded box is also in lovely condition with its gold coloured edging. Inside there is a white satin pad. Therer are a couple of ink marks to the pad but otherwise it is in lovely clean condition.
I have fully serviced this set. The pen's nib is very smooth in action. It writes with a generous wet, fine width line, and is also a soft nib. I would class it as semi-flexible. It will give you some lovely line width variation from an extra fine to an easy medium with little effort.
