CS1119 Conway Stewart No. 226. (Soft Medium).

Date: c1940s

Size: Capped - 130mm, posted - 164mm.

What a beautiful large, chunky Conway.  It is in very good condition with just minor surface wear (what we call "drawer wear") to the barrel and cap.  This consists of fine scratches that are visible if you are looking for then.  The No. 226 was one of only five models that Conway Stewart were allowed to manufacture during the war.  This one is in splendidly glossy black chased celluloid with gold plated trim.  The chasing consists of a fine barleycorn pattern engraving.  The cap has a large black conical-ended top button holding on a washer style Conway Stewart pocket clip.  The clip has the "CS" cipher within a diamond shaped cartouche at the top with another diamond at the bottom.  The barrel imprint is very deep and crisp and the gold plated filling lever short with a circular end tab which, very unusually, has an engraved heart design instead of the usual "CS".  I have never seen this before on a Conway Stewart, or any other pen for that matter.  The nib is a shiny and undamaged Conway Stewart No. 3N.  It is in a medium point.

I have fully serviced this pen.  The nib is very smooth and produces a very good wet and medium width consistent line.  It is a soft nib and will provide for some attractive but understated line width variation as you write.

A wartime classic in lovely condition.
