CS1124 Conway Stewart No. 15, boxed (Flexible Medium-Broad)

Date: c1950s

Size: Capped - 128mm, posted - 156mm.

A burgundy and black marbled casein Conway 15.  Both barrel and cap are nice and glossy and the whole pen is in very good condition - If I use a loupe in good strong light I can just make out some very minor crazing to the surface of the pen which is very common with these older casein pens.  You can see this in the close-up picture of the pen's imprint where I managed to get the light just right to show this up.  The cap has a conical ended black top button that holds on the chrome plated pocket clip.  This has the "CS" logo within a diamond at the top and another diamond at the bottom.  This is the early model with no band around the cap lip.  The barrel has a conical end.  The imprint is still in excellent condition with apparently no wear, and the filling lever opposite is chrome plated with a circular end tab.  It has the "CS" logo imprinted within the tab.  The nib is the original Conway Stewart No. 1A in a medium-broad point.  The box is showing a bit of surface wear, especially to the corners and edges, and there is some wear-through of the finish on the lid.  Structurally, it is still sound.   Inside is the original instruction/warranty sheet.

I have fully serviced this pen.  The nib is very smooth to write with.  It produces a good wet and consistent medium width line.  The nib is a rather soft one - I would say it is fully flexible and is easily capable of line width variation from an extra-fine to a good generous broad with very little effort at all.
