PA3397 Parker 61 Consort Fountain Pen and Pencil Set, boxed. (Medium)
Date: c1960s
Size: 135mm capped; 156mm posted.
A gorgeous English India Black 61 set with the very uncommon and difficult to find rolled gold Consort caps in their original Parker hardshell case. Try as I might I can find no plating wear or even any noticeable scratches on either of the pieces. Everything is still bright and shiny, and neither pen nor pencil look like they have been extensively used! The caps are decorated with the deeply-cut square "Consort" pattern. They all have clear grey top jewels and rolled gold Parker arrow pocket clips.
Fountain Pen
There is a clear grey jewel at the end of the barrel to match the one at the top of the cap. The barrel unscrews to reveal the original capillary style ink filling system. This is still in very good order with just a single scratch in the Teflon coating. The hood is glossy and also a black colour, with the inlaid arrow behind the hooded 14ct gold nib. This is in a medium point.
Pencil
The cap pulls off to reveal a broken-off pink eraser, but the metal holder is still there and there are still a couple of 0.9mm leads below. I have fitted a fresh 0.9mm lead into the mechanism. It is a propel-repel pencil and works by twisting the cap. It has a rolled gold point.
Box
A large grey and black criss-cross hardshell case with silvery grey satin lining. The lining has a few grubby stains but nothing remotely serious.
Both pen and pencil are working perfectly. The pen writes very smoothly with a medium width nice wet line.
