PA3645 Parker Challenger. (Soft Fine)

Date: c1933

Size: Capped - 123mm; posted - 146mm.

A rather unusual and quite early model Parker Challenger pen from 1933/1934.  The Challengers were a "thrift" pen - one of the lower Parker models, and as such, were usually used to death, so it is difficult to find a decent one, especially outside of the U. S.  This one is such a beast, and is fitted with its original US-made nib.  The pen is in generally very nice shape, though the barrel has typical discolouration - it is a little bit ambered, though it is much better than most.  The cap has a self-coloured top button with a washer style "Parker" pocket clip below which has a ball-shaped terminal.  Around the cap lip are three very narrow gold plated bands.  The barrel imprint is very faint, but I can just make out a date code for 1933.  The nib has a date code for 1944 so it is very likely that this is the original nib for this pen.  The blind cap unscrews to reveal the original filling button.  The nib has a fine point.

I have fully serviced this pen.  It fills and writes very nicely.  The nib lays down a very smooth, fine width line and has a pleasantly soft and springy action.  It will produce a tiny bit of understated line width variation as you write.

A rather unusual and quite early Parker Challenger.
