SH1881 Sheaffer Imperial Cartridge Pen, boxed. (Medium)
SH1881 Sheaffer Imperial Cartridge Pen, boxed. (Medium)
Date: c1960s
Size: Length - 145mm posted; 132mm capped.
A very attractive and rather unusual Imperial style pen with the small Imperial I type 14ct gold nib. This pen is in excellent condition and is supplied in its original Sheaffer box. I have not seen anything quite the same as this pen before and I am not even sure it is actually am Imperial model as it is slimmer than most other Imperial pens. Both barrel and cap are gold plated with panels of machine-engraved barleycorn pattern running down both. The cap has a typical squared off spring loaded and gold plated Imperial pocket clip. There is a polished cap lip band too, and this bears the pen's imprint, which says simply "SHEAFFER". The barrel and section also have no noticeable scratches and look nice and glossy. This is, unusually, a cartridge filled pen, and this would probably push the date of this pen forward to the late 1960s. The small 14ct nib is a in a medium point. The original box has a blue leatherette outer and a dark blue flocked inner. It, too, is in very nice condition.
I have fully serviced this pen. The nib writes very smoothly. It lays down a good wet and consistent medium width line.
