SH1886 Targa by Sheaffer No. 1005 Fluted Gold Plate, boxed (Soft Fine)
Date: c1980s
Size: Capped - 136mm; posted - 159mm.
This beautiful 23-carat gold electroplated Targa is the full-sized pen and has no damage at all that I can find. Both barrel and cap are decorated with deeply incised vertical lines - Sheaffer calls this the "Fluted" pattern. The flat-topped cap has a black plastic disc inset into the top with a pierced pocket clip with the Sheaffer white dot at the top. The cap lip is imprinted "Gold Electroplated [crown] Sheaffer USA". The barrel also has a black insert in the end. It unscrews to allow the pen to be refilled. It can be used with a standard Sheaffer ink converter (the original and fully working converter is already fitted to the pen) or with standard Sheaffer ink cartridges. The nib is a superb 14 carat gold inlaid nib. It is in a fine point. The original hard shell case is covered with brown leatherette and has brass bound edgesIt opens to a beautiful interior in period beige and brown. Below the flocked pad is the original instruction sheet and sealed ack of 2 Sheaffer ink cartridges.
I have fully serviced this pen. The nib is just superb. It produces an very smooth, wet and fine width line. It even has a little softness to it and it will manage a tiny bit of line width variation as you write.
It looks like this pen has barely been used. Certainly, there is no damage on it at all, and it is pretty much complete with all the original extras.
