SH1899 Lady Sheaffer XVI, Moiré Gold. (Extra Fine)
SH1899 Lady Sheaffer XVI, Moiré Gold. (Extra Fine)
Size: Capped - 138mm; posted - 150mm.
A very unusual Lady Sheaffer pen in a beautiful Moiré Gold lacquer with a pronounced cap girdle set with tiny stones. There are a couple of minor scratches to the surface lacquer, and some of the stones in the girdle are a bit grubby, but I don't think any are missing. As is usual with these pens, the glue or whatever once helped the stones still is no longer working and they do move around a little bit - a bit like bearings in a race. As you can see, condition is very good. The Lady Sheaffer pens were made from the late 1950s through to the mid-1960s. This is probably an earlier one as the nib has the earlier "SHEAFFER'S" imprint. Both cap and barrel are metal based and covered in a beautiful gold lacquer with machining beneath giving the moiré effect. The cap is clipless, and was designed that way. The barrel unscrews for filling, and you can use either a standard Sheaffer ink cartridge or a standard Sheaffer ink converter (not included). The 14ct gold (it is not actually marked as gold but these nine were all gold) two-toneTriumph style nib is in an extra fine point.
I have fully serviced this pen. The nib writes very smoothly. It lays down a good wet and consistent exztra fine width line.
A great find and very unusual in this good condition.
