SW824 Swan Self-Filler No. 3160 ( Flexible Medium)
Date: c1940s
Size: Capped - 127mm; posted - 152mm.
A lovely glossy black celluloid Swan Self-Filler pen. This pen is in excellent condition with no real damage that I could spot. The cap has a domed top. The pocket clip is gold filled with a ball at the bottom and the Swan logo imprinted at the shoulder. The main barrel imprint is in excellent condition - deep and crisp, and still has a little of the original white infill. The filling lever is also gold filled and has the small circular end tab that is very much a Mabie Todd trademark. The nib is the original Swan No. 1 nib made from 14 carat gold. It has a fine width point. Both barrel and cap are nice and glossy - there is a tiny bit of surface wear but that is only to be expected for a pen of this age.
I have fully serviced this pen. The nib writes very nicely with a wet and consistent fine width line. It is a soft nib - I would say fully flexible. It will give you some very attractive line width variation as you write from a fine line on the horizontals to a good generous medium on the verticals.
