BU150 Burnham No. 56. (Broad Italic)
Date: c1950s
Size: Capped - 125mm; posted - 145mm.
A beautiful Burnham No. 56 in splendid glossy burgundy and grey marbled casein. The pen is in excellent condition with no cracks, splits or chips to either cap or barrel. There are no noticeable surface scratches either. Even the pocket clip has a good amount of its plating intact - there is just a bit of wear to the lower part. The cap is topped with a gold plated button that holds on the tapered clip. The two cap bands and filling lever are also gold plated. This pen has a very cute little nib marked "Burnham 14 carat gold". It is still nice and shiny, and in a most unusual broad italic point. On the side of the barrel is a very crisp and clear imprint that shows absolutely no wear at all.
I have fully serviced this pen. The nib writes well - very smooth and produces a good wet line. As you can see from the pictures, the nib is cut square across. I would estimate the line produced on the downstrokes to be about 0.8mm, making it a nice broad
This is a classy looking 50s Burnham. Burnhams seem to have appreciated in value a fair bit over the last couple of years and good examples like this one are getting hard to find. The colourway, as well, is one I have not seen before. Most attractive.
