MS865 Boot's Chatsworth, boxed. (Fine)
Date: c1950s
Size: Capped - 124mm; posted - 145mm.
This is a late manufacture Boot's Chatsworth pen - I think this one was probably made by Burnham as it has similarities to late Burnham pens of a similar age to this one. Several models of the Chatsworth were offered over the years, and this is a later model, probably from the late 1950s. It is a nice glossy grey coloured pen in excellent condition. I really can't see any damage on this pen at all, and I rather doubt whether it has actually been used. The cap has a conical ended top with a long narrow gold plated pocket clip with "CHATSWORTH" imprinted down the stem. Below this and near the cap lip is a single narrow gold plated band. Still around the upper part of the barrel is the paper sales label which shows the nib width (it says Medium, but the nib writes more like a modern-day fine), and also the original price of the pen! The barrel unscrews to reveal the filling mechanism. This is a press-bar filler, similar in operation to Conway Stewart's "Pressac" filler, or Parker's "Aerometric", though not as sophisticated as the latter. The original ink sac has a little age-related discolouration (yellowing) but is as supple as ever and shows no evidence of ever seeing ink. The cute little Warranted nib is made from 14-carat gold nib. The nib is in a fine point. The original box is also in lovely condition and includes the original instruction slip inside.
I have fully serviced this pen. The nib writes very well with a very fine and wet line.
An unusual and very late model pen from Burnham.
