ST033 Stephen's Leverfil No. 270. (Semi-Flexible Broad)

Date: c1930s

Size: Length - 129mm capped; 153mm posted.

A beautiful glossy chased celluloid Stephen's No 270 in very nice condition indeed.  Apart from a tiny bit of plating wear to the pocket clip that you will not notice unless you are using some kind of magnification, there does not appear to be much wrong with this one.  The chasing on the barrel and cap is in the ever-popular barleycorn pattern.  It is still very crisp and shows no wear at all.  The cap has a large black hard rubber top button that shows none of the usual colour fading.  The washer-style pocket clip is in the form of a stylised arrow.  It is gold filled.  There are also two narrow gold filled cap bands.  The barrel has an excellent deep, crisp imprint and opposite that is the narrow gold filled filling lever.  The nib is marked Warranted, made from 14-carat gold and in a medium point.

I have fully serviced this pen.  The nib is very smooth writing and it produces a very nice wet, medium width line too with excellent ink flow, and enough softness to allow me to describe it as semi-flexible.  It will easily manage a fine to extra-fine on the horizontals and a medium to broad on the verticals.  .

A very distinguished large English pen from the 1930s.
