PA3665 Parker Duofold NS. (Soft Medium)
Date: c1940s
Size: Capped - 137mms; posted - 157mm.
The NS or "New Style" Duofold was made by the UK arm of Parker between 1946 and 1948. A short production run that means these pens are not common today. This is a glossy jet black example that is in very good condition. Damage-wise, there is some very minor plating wear to the edges of the pocket clip, and there are also some scratches and surface wear to the barrel and cap, though nothing you'd really notice without using magnification. Outwardly, the NS Duofold is very similar in appearance to the later AF Duofold and the Aerometric Duofold. This pen is, however a button filler, and has a "jewel" on both the cap top and the barrel end. The cap has a black conical end "jewel" and a rolled gold Parker Arrow pocket clip. There is also a wide cap band - also rolled gold - that has the usual "deco" engraving. At the end of the barrel is a blind cap that is fitted with a rolled gold tassie and another conical ended black "jewel". This can be unscrewed and beneath is the original brass filling button. The barrel imprint is unusually clear and crisp. The nib is the original Newhaven Parker Duofold nib, made from 14-carat gold and in a generous medium point.
I have fully serviced this pen. It fills and writes superbly. The nib lays down a very smooth line that is both wet and consistent and is bordering on a broad width for me. It is a soft nib and will provide for some very attractive line width variation from a fine to a broad width line with very little effort.
